Sunday-A day of rest

Saturday was a busy day for Rick. He had quite a few visitors and although he was awake and moving around all day, it was almost too much for him. He didn't sleep a lot Saturday and when we stopped in to see him before we left for home Sunday morning, he was fast asleep.  At nine a.m. he had already has breakfast, was cleaned up and resting comfortably in a fresh pair of PJs. So we left him sleep. He earned it.

I also need to let you know that about eight p.m. last night, Mary told me that he asked, "When did Dale and Linda leave?" So I guess he remembered my name after all. It made me feel good and I felt good for Rick too, because that meant he was retaining some things in his memory.

Today he took a few walks in the upright walker, buckling and un-buckling the belt himself each time.

We noticed yesterday that he did a lot of squinting whenever he would look at us or the television, so Mary asked that we bring him up a pair of "Cheaters" magnifying eyeglasses.

The nurse who watches him all day sits at a chair with a laptop in the corner of his room. When he returned from one of his walks, he stopped near her chair and said he wanted to sit down and go on the internet. He grabbed for his glasses, put them on, grabbed the mouse as if he were looking up something. When he had had enough, he said he wanted to lay down. But we are thankful for the things he remembers like putting on his glasses, grabbing the computer mouse and looking at a computer screen, Although everything is not there yet, this was a very cool thing and we are happy that some things seem to be inside his head still, just waiting to be discovered.
