Good bye Wausau....Hello Waterford?

After a restful Sunday, Rick was ready to get back to work.  He took several walks with his upright walker today.  One of his therapists let him try to wash himself this time. First his right arm, then his left arm. He washed his own face and pretty much his total body, for the first time.

After extensive research of the different Milwaukee area rehab facilities that would be the best for Rick's type of head injury, his family decided they liked what Columbia St. Mary's had to offer and thought it would be the best case for him, with Lakeview Rehab in Waterford an equally good choice.  After checking availability, it was determined that Rick would not be able to go to St. Mary's until a week from Thursday, and they felt that was too long to wait for his intensive therapy to begin.  So, with that, Lakeview could take him as soon as tomorrow (Tuesday). Aspirus hospital is ready to release him.  Mary told me tonight, barring any changes or other unforeseen circumstances, Rick should be released to go to Waterford Tuesday morning.

He will be riding in a van provided by the hospital and staffed by a driver and a nurse.  Mary can follow behind and then she'll be there when he arrives and be able to help settle him in.  So when I know more about his new temporary home, I'll let you know.  If there are any visiting restrictions and directions to the facility, as well as his room number.

His therapy will be very challenging.  He still needs your prayers and best wishes.  Although his motor skills seem to be pretty good, he will need  memory work.  We have to look on the bright side and see that he can walk, talk, feed and clean himself.  He is able to read, although not comprehend.  He knows the names of most things and people.  He will need therapy to put it all together. Hopefully it will begin tomorrow! :)
