Good Friday

Just a quick note for the weekend.  Things are progressing, albeit slowly, but every day there is something that is simple, but amazing all the same, considering how he was last weekend.

They have to buckle a belt for Rick to take his walks so he is tethered to something.  Last night he  buckled the belt himself and tonight he proclaimed that it was "too tight" and unbuckled it.

While sitting in his room, in the recliner, he looked over and saw that there was a bottle of water on the table. He leaned over, picked up the sealed bottle, and twisted the top off and took a drink, all on his own.  He used his fork to eat his dinner by himself tonight, as well.  If he can master his small motor skills, his therapy will only have to focus on his memory.

Later this evening he and Mary were sitting in his room and Mary casually asked him what time it was.  He looked at the clock on the wall and studied it for a while, then said, "five to seven". He was correct!

We are heading up to Wausau tomorrow, so I can't wait to his progress for myself. We saw him right after the accident and haven't seen him since Monday.
